Black List Software is a United States-based software company, focused on the removal of malicious software from the modern Windows OS. Founded by James Everett in 2004 as an answer to the ever growing threat of malicious software targeting the modern Windows OS.

In 2004, we started with an incredibly simple idea. And, that idea was to succeed where others before us have failed by creating a more definite solution, one that could easily defeat malware in user mode. After a few months, we finally had a working prototype that was showing a lot of promise. Later on we developed the Assassin Termination Technologies and had thus produced a technology strong enough to confront even the most stubborn of all malware. But, we didn't stop there. We made finding the containing folder quite easy, and over time we have added a ratings and definitions system with over 10,000 ratings and definitions, we've added an update manager and specialized modules that help you to uncover the hidden links in any active process chain, modules to interact with services so to forcefully stop them when necessary, and the list goes on and on. However, despite the great strength of Assassin, the user mode environment in which it operates does not allow for there to be a definite solution, one that is always certain. And, by discovering this truth, we are led to a great awakening.

In 2009, we awakened to realize that fighting malicious software in user mode was absolutely futile. Once you come to realize that you are fighting something active and something programmed to know just as much, if not more about the Windows OS than most people do, then you should begin to realize that you have always been fighting an endless war. But, what if you could step outside that place and launch your counter-attacks from a place where you have all the advantages? Well, our newest retail application, Omega, does just that and more. Not only does Omega boot the system to a malware-free zone, Omega can also read and write to an NTFS formatted disk, neutralize and destroy malicious software, and all without involving the Windows OS in any way. Malicious software just sits there on disk waiting to be eliminated, because to Omega, the contents on disk are no more than a series of binary patterns; a record vulnerable to manipulation at will.

In 2010, we are headed toward discovering better technologies, so that you, the end-user, will be well equipped with the type of technologies that are capable of dealing with the more advanced and hostile types of malware we see today and will continue to encounter in the future. As always, we will continue listening to our customers and our freeware users, and we will keep our fingers on the pulse and an ear to the wind (as they say), and we will always press forward, despite any set back or defeat, for the sake of creating a better and safer digital world for us all.
